If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.
— Isaac Newton

With passion to be the “shoulders of giants” for our students to stand upon, we are blazing with the desire to help them see farther, go farther and be more than we ourselves could ever be. The future awaits, and we are arming these global students to be the ones to shape it and lead us there!

Meet the Executive Board:

Our focus, as leaders of this great organization, is to establish a strong foundation of vision, mission, systems and infrastructure that will support our continual expansion across the globe. We look forward to engaging with you in our mission!

Dwight “Dee” Ellingwood

President of the Board

As former SVP of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, I saw that our focus on quality resulted in CCHMC becoming the safest children’s hospital in the world through continual education, training, and systems change. Quality Champions for Life brings me full circle – to expand the science and art of quality improvement to students and the industry.

Former SVP of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center

Peter Shearstone

Secretary of the Board

As a member of the Pathway Chief Quality Officer Team that chartered this vision, I believe that we are empowering young people to make every decision with the greater understanding of quality impact and to own the outcome for the patients we serve.

VP, Global Quality & Regulatory Affairs at Thermo Fisher Scientific

Dr. Barbara Hopkins

Treasurer of the Board

As the Professor who launched the Quality Science Education pilot, I have seen the impact of this education first-hand. This program opens the eyes of students to tremendous career possibilities, and ways they can make a global humanitarian impact.

Professor Emeritus at Xavier University

Meet the Board of Directors:

Our Board of Directors represents a cross-section of each of the stakeholders related to our mission, including: students, professors, industry leaders and regulators. Of course, we have all been patients at one time, and hope to move from the need for “patient health” to a focus on “population health” as we advance cures, preventative treatments and overall health.

Katelyn France

As one of the first Quality Science Education graduates, and current Pharm.D. student, I see the value in understanding how quality is designed into the products I will be dispensing. Having a true appreciation for the complexity enables me to co-own the outcome for the patients I will be serving.

Pharm.D. Student at University Minnesota

Kara King, Ph.D.

My passion is preparing young people to take their place in our rapidly evolving world. Young people who can lead with scientific understanding, critical thinking and grounded in the morals and values needed to serve patients around the world. I believe this program is foundational for this outcome.

Vice President at Zoetis

Maryam Mellatdoust

The Quality Science Education Program is unprecedented in its preparation of the next generation of students joining our industry. I actually lead this program at Rutgers University and see its impact first-hand!

Chief Quality Officer at International Flavors & Fragrances

Ashley Moorer-Cummins

As a graduate of the Quality Science Education Program through Georgia State University, I have experienced job opportunities made available to me, directly because of this education. Trust in the quality of our work is foundational in all that we do.

CDC ORISE Fellow

Steven Niedelman

As a former FDA Official, I see the value in entrenching organizations with Quality Champions, and I am passionate about preparing the next generation of students for fulfilling careers. I find that this program is uniquely positioned to accomplish both of these goals.

Lead GMP Consultant at King & Spalding

Cesar Perez

As an FDA Official, I am constantly advocating for product quality and safety. Matching that with my desire to build the next generation of science professionals makes this Board a perfect fit for both of my passions. I enjoy teaching this program to La Salle University students online and see the outcome first-hand.

Director in CDRH at the FDA

Marla Phillips, Ph.D.

It was time to create a paradigm shift in how we expand quality ownership outside of the Quality Department. Preparing students with real-world learning enables us to organically grow quality ownership across the entire enterprise!
